Hemp Project
This is a project created for the Louisiana State University's Make it With Hemp Fiber Art Contest. It is made up of 100% hemp denim using couture techniques. It took over 100 hours to pattern, sew, and finish this set. Overall, it took over 6 yards of three different shades of hemp denim, which I then used to create my own bespoke patchwork fabric. The buttons were sourced from a variety of secondhand locations, all of the buttons are vintage.
The National Make it With Hemp Contest was shown in two Louisiana locations and one location in Oregon. My piece is now on display with Western Michigan University as part of their 'Designer of the Semester' initiative and continually highlighted in various student news articles. This piece was the sole piece chosen to be a part of the Make it with Hemp exhibits from a student at Western Michigan University.
The piece was also one of 8 nationally to receive funding and be accepted into Louisiana State University's "Hemp Impressions" exhibit. The entry has received accolades from Western Michigan University, including a write-up from the President of the University and articles in the WMU News.
